Microsoft has lately pushed the September routine security update to users of Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. This update bears the number KB5124008 and raises the system to Build 26200.9445 / 26100.9445. Users on the aforementioned versions can install this latest routine update simply by clicking Check for updates.
Fixing the Loss of Custom Cursor Styles
The optional update Microsoft released in late August brought numerous problems, among them the loss of users’ custom cursor styles and a desktop wallpaper turned black. At the time, Microsoft explained that the update had altered a component’s code in a way that prevented personalization settings from loading, and that the issue afflicted only non-English systems.
Because Microsoft’s engineers all work on English systems, they never noticed the problem at all, learning of it only through user feedback after the rollout. Fortunately, the optional update was not pushed to everyone, so its reach remained limited. The issue has now been remedied in KB5124008, and affected users can install the update to resolve the cursor trouble.
