Since its debut in 2023 and the subsequent rollout of numerous updates, the note-taking service NotebookLM has now officially expanded its Audio Overview feature to support over 50 languages, including Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish — allowing users to export document content into multilingual audio formats with greater ease.
Originally introduced in September of last year, the Audio Overview function enables NotebookLM’s underlying AI to engage with user-uploaded materials through simulated “discussions,” distilling key points and generating audio summaries primarily in English for auditory consumption.
Now, this capability has been significantly broadened to encompass major global languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, German, French, Arabic, and Korean. With this enhancement, users can effortlessly compile and synthesize their documents through NotebookLM and transform them into conversational audio summaries. This not only allows users to “read” through listening but also opens new creative possibilities, such as repurposing the output as podcast content.
In addition, Google has introduced a beta interactive mode within the Audio Overview feature, wherein an AI-generated “host” actively responds to user queries or even poses follow-up questions — adding a dynamic, conversational layer to the listening experience.
