Beyond its beloved Swedish meatballs and furniture that tests one’s assembly skills, Swedish home furnishings brand IKEA appears to be preparing to inject a bit more “gaming spirit” into players’ living rooms. IKEA released a teaser video on its official Instagram account, hinting at an official crossover collaboration with Microsoft’s Xbox gaming brand – one that will bring a series of gaming-themed co-branded furniture and home accessories designed specifically for players.
Joystick-Shaped Furniture and Classic Green Pillows Spotted in the Teaser
In the teaser video IKEA released, the shots remain tightly cropped and reveal neither the full product lineup nor any pricing details. Nevertheless, the footage clearly shows a furniture component shaped like an Xbox controller’s analog joystick, alongside a round pillow bearing the iconic Xbox green logo.
Given the timing, this collaboration is expected to reveal fuller details next week at Gamescom 2026, the gaming convention held in Cologne, Germany. Microsoft’s Xbox division has already scheduled two major livestream events for August 26 and 27. Alongside gameplay updates for titles such as Fable, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Minecraft Dungeons II, this IKEA home-goods crossover could very well make its official debut during those same broadcasts.
This marks Microsoft’s latest major foray into home living products, following its 2021 release of the meme-inspired Xbox Series X mini fridge and the subsequent Xbox toaster.
From “Gaming Room” to “Living Room”: Xbox Extends Its IP Value
IKEA previously partnered with ASUS ROG (Republic of Gamers) several years ago to co-develop a line of affordable gaming desks, chairs, and storage accessories, successfully transforming “gaming furniture” from its once-expensive, bulky stereotype into an approachable, minimalist product category accessible to mainstream consumers.
This time, the decision to partner with Microsoft’s Xbox reflects an even more intriguing strategic calculation.
With console hardware sales facing a cyclical slowdown and Microsoft placing full weight behind its Xbox Game Pass “play anywhere” strategy – what the company calls Xbox Everywhere – Microsoft urgently needs to elevate Xbox beyond its identity as a simple “television game console” and transform it into a genuine lifestyle brand and youth culture symbol, much as elements of Nintendo’s brand identity have long since permeated mainstream culture.
By leveraging IKEA’s global network of hundreds of millions of physical showroom visits, weaving controllers, the iconic green ring logo, and gaming elements into everyday sofas, pillows, and coffee tables, Microsoft can effectively dissolve the boundary between hardcore gamers and the general public. It is a remarkably low-barrier marketing approach that quietly embeds the Xbox brand directly into the living room. For players who want to carve out a personal gaming corner without turning their living room into an overwrought showcase of RGB lighting, this collaboration is unquestionably one worth anticipating.
