iPhone 16 Pro Duo to Boast Periscope Lens, Apple Expands Supply Chain
The optical components industry is entering its annual peak season, with many supply chain manufacturers eagerly preparing to secure a share of the forthcoming new-generation flagship smartphones. In particular, Apple’s partners involved with iPhone models are vying for increased orders.
According to DigiTimes, both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature periscope telephoto lenses. Last year, Apple’s supply chain requirements were relatively simple, given that only the iPhone 15 Pro Max utilized the new telephoto lens with its groundbreaking quadruple-reflection prism design. With the upgrade of the iPhone 16 Pro’s camera, Apple plans to expand the supply chain for the quadruple-reflection prism periscope telephoto lenses by bringing in additional suppliers.
Reports indicate that Apple has already assigned the related orders to Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical for production, with the former securing the majority of the orders and the latter being a new entrant. It is anticipated that the production capacity of the optical components industry will peak between September and November, aligning with the launch and release schedule of the iPhone 16 Pro series.
Rumors suggest that Apple has increased the order volume for the A18 series chips, with the expected shipment of the iPhone 16 series ranging between 90 million to 100 million units. However, the distribution of shipments between the standard and Pro models remains unclear. If half of the orders are from the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, the order volume is substantial, posing a significant challenge for Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical.
