Could Final Fantasy XVI Come to Xbox? CEO Signals Openness
The RPG game “Final Fantasy XVI,” developed by Square Enix, was released on June 22, 2023. According to an agreement with Sony, the PlayStation 5 will have exclusive rights for at least six months. Subsequently, at PAX West 2023, it was confirmed that “Final Fantasy XVI” will be available on the PC platform.
“Final Fantasy XVI” has been available on PlayStation 5 for a year now. Although it has received positive acclaim from both the gaming industry and players, its sales have not entirely met expectations. This has prompted Square Enix to adopt a more comprehensive multi-platform strategy in the future. Recently, the official social media channels celebrated the first anniversary of “Final Fantasy XVI” with game director Hiroshi Takai expressing a desire to make the game accessible to a broader audience, suggesting that the game might soon be available on more platforms.
According to the development plan, the PC version of “Final Fantasy XVI” should be nearing its release date. Additionally, “Final Fantasy XVI” has introduced two DLCs, “Echoes of the Sky” and “Wail of the Sea,” providing players with a more complete gaming experience.
With Square Enix’s new CEO, Takashi Kiryu, explicitly expressing commitment to the Xbox platform, many Xbox players believe that “Final Fantasy XVI” might eventually be released on the Xbox Series X|S consoles. However, this will depend on the specifics of the timed exclusivity agreement between Square Enix and Sony.
It is understood that if “Final Fantasy XVI” is released on Xbox and PC, players will receive a complete version that includes both DLCs.
