Nintendo recently released its financial results for fiscal year 2025, covering the period from April of the previous year to the end of March. Total revenue reached ¥1.1649 trillion, marking a 30.3% year-over-year decline. Operating profit stood at ¥282.5 billion, a decrease of 46.6% compared to the prior fiscal year. Of the total revenue, ¥1.0835 trillion came from console sales, reflecting a 30.9% drop, while mobile and IP-related licensing revenue amounted to ¥67.6 billion, down 27%. Notably, revenue from official store sales grew by 21.4% year-over-year, reaching ¥13.7 billion.
In terms of hardware performance, Nintendo sold 10.8 million consoles during the fiscal year. This included 3 million units of the standard Nintendo Switch, 5.86 million units of the OLED model, and 1.95 million units of the Nintendo Switch Lite. Software sales totaled 155.41 million copies. However, both hardware and software figures saw significant declines compared to the previous year, largely attributed to consumer anticipation for the launch of the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2.
Cumulatively, Nintendo Switch has now surpassed 152.12 million units sold, with software sales exceeding 1.39123 billion copies. The number of active players engaging with the Nintendo Switch platform remains robust at 128 million—an impressive rise from 36 million in fiscal year 2019, though slightly below the 129 million recorded in fiscal 2024.
Regarding software performance, Super Mario Party: Jamboree sold 7.48 million units during the fiscal year. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe followed with 6.23 million units sold, while The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom reached 4.09 million units. Nintendo Switch Sports posted cumulative sales of 3.16 million units.
Nintendo also emphasized that its proprietary titles continue to perform strongly, particularly entries in the Super Mario franchise, which have consistently delivered significant sales results.
Looking ahead to fiscal year 2026, Nintendo projects total revenue of ¥1.9 trillion—a remarkable 63.1% increase. This anticipated growth is driven largely by the impending launch of Nintendo Switch 2. Operating profit is forecasted to reach ¥320 billion, representing a 13.3% year-over-year rise.
The company expects to sell 15 million units of Nintendo Switch 2 in FY2026, alongside 45 million units of related software. The existing Nintendo Switch line will also remain in circulation, with projected sales of 4.5 million units and 105 million software units for the legacy platform.
