The “Side-by-Side View” feature, already available in Excel for Windows, enables users to display two worksheets within the same window for effortless comparison, enhancing data accuracy and boosting productivity.
This functionality is now also being introduced to Excel for Mac. As it is currently in testing, it is available exclusively to Microsoft 365 Insider participants using Excel for Mac. However, it will soon be rolled out to the general public.
The benefits of the side-by-side view include:
- Enhanced Productivity: Viewing two worksheets simultaneously allows for seamless comparison and data analysis without the need for constant tab switching.
- Streamlined Workflow: Tasks such as tracking changes, verifying data across different sheets, and consolidating information become faster and more efficient.
- Improved Accuracy: Opening multiple worksheets side-by-side helps ensure consistency and minimizes errors when transferring or referencing data.
How to Use Side-by-Side View:
Windows/Mac:
Open any worksheet containing data, click on View, Window, and then View Side by Side. This will open a new blank sheet; you can then click File, Open, and select the new worksheet you wish to compare.
Currently, this feature supports viewing two worksheets side-by-side. If you need to view more than two worksheets simultaneously, you can open two separate Excel windows and manually arrange them, allowing up to four worksheets to be displayed at once—or even more if your screen size permits.
Additionally, you can enable the Synchronous Scrolling option after activating side-by-side view. This feature allows both worksheets to scroll simultaneously. However, synchronous scrolling only functions within the same Excel window and does not apply when windows are manually arranged, meaning you cannot scroll four worksheets simultaneously.
Version Support Information: Excel for Mac 16.97 Build 25041535
This version is currently available in testing. Users will gain access to side-by-side viewing once they update to this version or a later one.
