At a CES 2025 pre-event, AMD unveiled its next-generation RDNA 4 graphics architecture, designed to enhance performance and AI computing while significantly improving real-time ray tracing capabilities. The company also announced the upcoming release of the Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 graphics cards in the first quarter of this year.
The RDNA 4 architecture, built on TSMC’s 4nm process, integrates second-generation generative AI accelerators and third-generation real-time ray tracing accelerators. It also features the second-generation AMD Radiance Display Engine, offering optimized compute units, enhanced AI computing capabilities, improved ray tracing performance, and superior multimedia encoding.
AMD demonstrated the capabilities of FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) using Call of Duty: Black Ops VI, highlighting its ability to upscale low-resolution images to deliver high-quality 4K visuals. Tailored for the RDNA 4 architecture, FSR 4 combined with FG technology boosts graphical performance, while the Anti-Lag 2 feature reduces latency for a smoother gaming experience.
Additionally, AMD introduced its AI-powered service, Adrenalin AI, which enables users to generate images, summarize documents on devices, and inquire about technical details related to AMD products through its software tools.
Scheduled for a first-quarter release, AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 series, featuring the Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT, will be available as customized graphics card solutions from partners including ASUS, Acer, Sapphire, XFX, ASRock, GIGABYTE, PowerColor, HIS, and Yeston.
AMD also announced adjustments to its graphics card naming conventions, aligning them with the Ryzen 300 series naming strategy. For example, the Radeon RX 9070 XT paired with Ryzen 9000 series processors will primarily target gaming systems, while laptops will use the RDNA 3.5-based Radeon RX 8000 series. This naming adjustment ensures the 8000 series remains relevant and allows direct performance comparisons between the Radeon RX 9070 and competing products in the same class.
By unifying its naming conventions under the 9000 series banner, AMD aims to simplify its product lineup and facilitate easier market comparisons with competitors.
In addition to the Radeon RX 9070 series, AMD teased the forthcoming Radeon RX 9060 series graphics cards, though their release timeline has not yet been disclosed.
