Sapphire Rapids Refresh Gets Ubuntu Certification, Powers Lenovo Workstation
Last year, Intel unveiled the Sapphire Rapids HEDT/workstation processors and the corresponding Fishhawk Falls platform, known as the Xeon WX-3400 series and Xeon WX-2400 series. These processors feature the new Golden Cove architecture cores, manufactured using the Intel 7 process, and utilize EMIB packaging. Earlier this year, reports emerged that Intel is preparing the Xeon WX-3500 series and Xeon WX-2500 series, which belong to the Sapphire Rapids Refresh.
According to VideoCardz, Sapphire Rapids Refresh has received Ubuntu certification, and Lenovo’s forthcoming ThinkStation P5 will be equipped with the Xeon W7-2595X processor. This processor boasts 26 cores and 52 threads, with a boost clock reaching up to 4.8GHz and a TDP of 250W, indicating that new devices have begun shipping to customers.
The Ubuntu certification, encompassing over 500 hardware compatibility tests, ensures flawless system operation, providing hardware compatibility assurance to potential buyers and users, and enabling OEM manufacturers to expedite market deployment. The verified ThinkStation P5 can be used with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and was tested with the NVIDIA T400 workstation graphics card, with upgrade options including the RTX A6000.
The Xeon WX-3500 series can be configured with up to 60 cores and supports eight-channel DDR5-4800 memory, while the slightly lower-tiered Xeon WX-2500 series can have up to 26 cores and supports four-channel DDR5-4800 memory. The release date for Sapphire Rapids Refresh remains unclear, but rumors suggest it may be announced during SIGGRAPH 2024, from July 28 to August 1.
