Harman International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung, has recently announced its acquisition of Sound United—Masimo’s consumer audio division—for a sum of \$350 million. The transaction is expected to conclude by the end of this year, after which Masimo will be able to concentrate more fully on advancing its core professional medical technology endeavors.
Sound United currently owns a portfolio of prestigious high-end audio brands, including Bowers & Wilkins, Marantz, and Denon. Upon completion of the deal, these renowned names will be consolidated under the Harman International umbrella—effectively placing the majority of the world’s premium audio brands within Samsung’s domain.
Harman International already oversees an impressive lineup of brands, such as JBL, Harman Kardon, AKG, Mark Levinson, Arcam, and Revel. The addition of Bowers & Wilkins, Marantz, and Denon will further amplify its dominance and competitive edge in the luxury audio market.
From a broader perspective, this strategic acquisition significantly strengthens Samsung’s position in both the automotive and residential sectors, while also expanding its footprint in the audiophile-grade sound system market.
