Securonis Linux has unveiled its most significant update to date — version 3.0, codenamed “Darkcloux,” along with patch 3.0-r1. This release introduces a suite of new utilities, reengineered components, and substantial enhancements in privacy and security.
The most notable change is the complete discontinuation of GNOME environment support. From this release onward, MATE remains the sole desktop environment available in the distribution.
A major addition is the FireScorpion browser — a hardened, privacy-focused fork of Firefox equipped with advanced tracker and ad-blocking capabilities. The release also introduces several new tools:
- Data Destroyer — a graphical interface for secure data deletion;
- System Knight — a utility for malware and rootkit detection;
- ColdBootDef — a memory-clearing tool that sanitizes RAM upon system shutdown;
- Speedtest — a command-line utility for measuring internet speed.
Many core components have been completely rewritten, including Nuke2System, Paranoia, PhysicalSec, and the password manager. The security settings now offer two kernel modes: one optimized for performance and the other for maximum hardening. Control panel interfaces have been refreshed, and the system theme has received a visual overhaul.
Several legacy features and tools have been deprecated and removed from the distribution: GNOME, the outdated Panic Mode (its functionality is now divided among separate tools), as well as Netxtrack, Symonitoring, and Netraffic.
Patch 3.0-r1, released on June 17, resolves autostart issues and significantly accelerates ColdBootDef through the implementation of Seconionis Autowipe technology. For users routing through Tor, it is recommended to verify configuration via check.torproject.org.
According to the developer, the release has been thoroughly tested on systems with both AMD and NVIDIA hardware and has demonstrated stable performance. It is also noted that AppArmor is active only after installation — not in Live mode. Securonis relies on open-source NVIDIA drivers, with documentation provided for proprietary driver installation via the nvidia-driver-guide.
The developer endorses this update as the most stable version available to date.
