Earlier, Samsung released a new firmware update for several soundbar models, including the HW-Q990D. However, following the update, these devices ceased responding entirely and became incapable of connecting to the companion app. Even attempts to perform a factory reset proved futile in resolving the issue.
Other affected models include the HW-Q800D and HW-S801D, among others. Devices with firmware auto-updates disabled remain unaffected, but since the default setting enables automatic updates, a significant number of units have been impacted.
Only now has Samsung acknowledged that a software update error is indeed responsible for rendering certain soundbars inoperable. This admission came from the Head of the Audio Division at Samsung Electronics America, who assured that Samsung USA will offer complimentary repair services for all affected devices.
Samsung USA emphasized that users are eligible for free repairs regardless of whether their devices are still under warranty. However, the resolution may prove inconvenient, as the issue appears to require physical servicing—users may need to send their soundbars to a Samsung service center for repairs.
Ideally, a remote firmware patch would provide a solution. Unfortunately, the affected soundbars are no longer able to connect to the associated app, leaving in-person servicing and manual firmware flashing by Samsung’s support team as the most likely remedy.
