Nintendo has announced that its latest gaming console, the Nintendo Switch 2—launched on June 5 across Japan, the United States, and other regions—has surpassed 3.5 million units sold within just four days of release, setting a new record for the highest four-day sales total in the company’s console history.
This impressive figure includes sales from the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Edition bundle, the Japan-exclusive domestic Japanese-language version, and the multi-language international version of the console.
Previously, Sony’s PlayStation 4 set a milestone by selling over one million units globally on its first day. However, both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 required two months to reach cumulative sales of 4.5 million units. As a result, market analysts now anticipate that Nintendo may surpass the 4.5 million mark with the Switch 2 within just a single week.
Despite Nintendo’s assurances of sufficient stock and proactive measures to curb scalping, consumer demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 has far exceeded expectations. Many prospective buyers were unable to secure preorder slots through lottery systems, and instances of scalpers reselling orders have continued to emerge.
Addressing the surging demand, Nintendo stated that it has requested its manufacturing partners to accelerate production of the Switch 2. Furthermore, the company has reached agreements with online marketplaces such as Rakuten, Mercari, and LY to help curb illicit reselling activities on their platforms.
