Apple is set to host its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 on June 9, during which the company will unveil the developer preview of iOS 19 and announce the list of supported devices for this year’s new release.
As is tradition, speculation surrounding device compatibility has already begun. According to MacRumors, a previously reliable private source has released a preliminary list of devices that will support iOS 19. Specifically, all models from the iPhone 11 series onward will be compatible.
Devices released prior to the iPhone 11—including the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max—all run on Apple’s A12 Bionic chip. It appears that iOS 19 will no longer support this chip, and thus these models will not be eligible for the update.
Here is the anticipated list of iOS 19 supported devices:
- iPhone 16 series
- iPhone 15 series
- iPhone 14 series
- iPhone 13 series
- iPhone 12 series
- iPhone 11 series
- iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)
It is important to note that while these devices may support iOS 19, not all features—particularly those involving Apple Intelligence and AI capabilities—will be available across the board. Such features are expected to be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the upcoming iPhone 16 series.
Regarding iPadOS 19 compatibility, Apple is expected to drop support for devices running on the A10 chip, including the iPad 7. However, the iPad Mini 5, which uses the A12 chip, is still likely to be supported—raising some disappointment among users of the iPhone X series, which also features the A12. That said, for aging devices, missing out on a major update may not necessarily be a drawback, as newer software can often lead to performance slowdowns.
