Google Play Services to Launch “Shielded Email” Feature
Experts from Android Authority have identified code fragments in the new 24.45.33 release of Google Play Services that indicate support for a feature called “Shielded Email.”
This tool is likely designed to generate disposable or limited-use email aliases that redirect messages to the user’s primary account. Users will have the ability to disable forwarding in the event of spam, thereby preserving the privacy of their main email address. Beyond shielding users from unwanted messages, the feature aims to reduce the risks of online tracking and mitigate the impact of data breaches.
The Shielded Email feature has also been found within the autofill settings menu; however, attempting to access the section redirects users to a blank page on myaccount.google.com.
It remains unclear whether these temporary addresses will be unique to each scenario or if there will be limitations on their number.
