According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Baidu’s autonomous taxi service, Apollo Go, is slated to make its European debut later this year.
Baidu is reportedly in discussions with PostAuto, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, to initiate testing of its Apollo Go autonomous vehicles within Switzerland. The company also plans to establish a local subsidiary in Switzerland in the coming months to support this endeavor.
Prior to this, Baidu had announced its intention to deploy 100 autonomous vehicles in Dubai, with the goal of expanding the fleet to 1,000 vehicles by 2028. The company is also broadening its pilot programs in Hong Kong and preparing for vehicle testing in Turkey.
Baidu first launched Apollo Go in 2022 across several major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai.
Its forthcoming entry into the European market is expected to ignite competition with established players such as Uber, as well as emerging Chinese autonomous driving startups like Momenta and WeRide.
