Recent FCC certification documents have revealed what appears to be a new handheld gaming device developed by ASUS under license from Microsoft’s Xbox brand. The device is expected to debut in both black and white color variants and will retain the iconic ROG branding.
On April 1st, during April Fools’ Day, ASUS teased the gaming community with a playful nod to its ROG universe. The company introduced OMNI, a fictional virtual assistant originally conceived as a digital pet, in a spoof inspired by the cult classic film The Fly. The teaser showcased a whimsical fusion of the ROG Ally and the ROG Raikiri wireless controller—subtly hinting at the arrival of a new handheld gaming device.
At present, ASUS has not officially confirmed whether a brand-new handheld console is in development or if the existing ROG Ally will receive an upgraded iteration.
However, industry rumors suggest that Microsoft may unveil a handheld Xbox device this year, internally codenamed “Kennan.” The console is expected to be manufactured by ASUS in an OEM capacity and powered by an AMD processor. While the operating system will remain Windows, it is anticipated to feature an interface resembling that of the Xbox console. Pricing is rumored to fall within the $499 to $599 range, aligning with the standard pricing for most Windows-based gaming handhelds.
Images surfaced in the FCC filings appear to corroborate this speculation, showing a new ASUS device that carries forward the design language of the ROG Ally 2. Notably, it incorporates ergonomic grips on both sides reminiscent of a traditional wireless controller. Concrete specifications, however, remain unconfirmed, and further details are likely to emerge once either ASUS or Microsoft makes an official announcement.
