In early May, during an online livestream, ASUS hinted at the upcoming release of the upgraded ROG Ally X product. Before Computex 2024, ASUS officially unveiled the detailed specifications of this gaming handheld device.
As previously mentioned, ASUS clarified that the ROG Ally X is not a successor to the ROG Ally and thus will not be named ROG Ally 2. It retains the same AMD Z1 Extreme specifications as the ROG Ally, along with a 7-inch screen featuring a variable refresh rate of 48-120Hz. However, the device now offers an additional black color option and has been redesigned, including the chassis and analog sticks. It also features an enhanced 80Wh battery, doubling the battery life, upgraded 24GB LPDDR5 7500MHz memory for gaming needs, and storage upgraded to M.2 2280 with a capacity increased to 1TB, making it more convenient for users to upgrade to higher storage capacities.
Additionally, the ROG Ally X replaces the ROG XG Mobile port from previous models with USB-C 4.0, compatible with Thunderbolt 4.0, supporting DisplayPort 1.4 output and PD 3.0 fast charging. The built-in USB-C port can simultaneously handle charging and display output requirements. With the redesigned chassis, the overall cooling performance of the ROG Ally X has improved by 24%, reducing operational temperatures by up to 6 degrees, and significantly enhancing game stability.
The operating system remains Microsoft Windows 11, with the software interface upgraded to the new Armoury Crate SE 1.5, making it easier to access various game content and services, including Steam. The ROG Ally X is priced at $799 and is available for purchase through retail channels.
ASUS emphasized that future ROG Ally models will be released, though specific details are not yet available.
