Amperage Brings “Recall” to Unsupported Windows 11 PCs
During this year’s Build 2024, Microsoft announced the introduction of a feature called “Recall,” allowing users to retrospectively access content previously viewed on the Windows 11 operating system through AI capabilities. However, this feature is exclusive to devices designed for “Copilot+ PC,” and currently, only new devices equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor can utilize this function.
Nevertheless, a software named “Amperage” has been released on GitHub, enabling older Windows on Arm devices, compatible with the Arm64 architecture, to also use the “Recall” feature. This includes devices powered by previous Snapdragon 8cx, Snapdragon 7c, Microsoft SQ, or Ampere processors.
Another requirement is the use of the Windows 11 24H2 build 26100.712 operating system version, ensuring the smooth operation of the “Recall” feature. While presently limited to new devices with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, it is anticipated that with the forthcoming releases of new Intel and AMD processors, more new devices will be able to use this feature to retrospectively access content viewed on Windows 11.
The “Recall” feature is akin to the earlier Timeline function introduced by Microsoft, primarily using a multimodal natural language model on the device to identify text, images, and videos previously viewed by the user. When the user accesses past content via the “Recall” feature, AI technology swiftly locates the desired content.
Microsoft emphasizes that all data for the “Recall” feature is stored solely on the user’s device and is not transmitted to the cloud for collaborative processing, thereby eliminating personal privacy concerns.
