According to a report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple’s long-rumored smart home hub—an innovative fusion of HomePod and iPad design—may finally make its market debut by the end of this year.
Whispers of this device have circulated for quite some time, yet no concrete plans for its release had previously emerged. Earlier reports suggested that the delay stemmed from Apple’s postponement of its new Siri, which is to be powered by the “Apple Intelligence” framework, a key component of the forthcoming device.
Gurman now reports that an entry-level version of the device is slated for public unveiling later this year. A more advanced model—equipped with a robotic arm capable of adjusting the screen’s position according to the user’s line of sight—may follow, though it is expected to arrive a year or two afterward.
Moreover, Gurman notes that Apple may temporarily forgo the originally envisioned “bold design” in order to expedite the product’s market launch, with such ambitious elements potentially reserved for future iterations.
Earlier speculation described this smart home hub as a synthesis of HomePod and iPad functionality, featuring a 7-inch display, running on the homeOS operating system. It is also said to support a standby interface similar to the one shown when an iPhone is placed horizontally while charging. Positioned as a direct contender to Amazon’s Echo line and Google’s Nest Hub, Apple’s new offering aims to carve out a space within the competitive smart home ecosystem.
