Following Google’s announcement at this year’s Google I/O 2025 that it will launch its “Project Aura” smart glasses—featuring the Android XR operating system and developed in collaboration with Xreal—Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is also preparing to unveil its own smart glasses by the end of 2026.
Speculation surrounding Apple’s entry into the smart eyewear space has circulated for some time, and Bloomberg’s latest revelations suggest that the device will feature an integrated camera, microphone, and speaker system. It will support interaction through Siri, Apple’s digital assistant, enabling functionalities such as music playback, call handling, voice queries, and navigation guidance.
However, to compete with Meta’s smart glasses—already enhanced with Meta AI—and Google’s forthcoming devices set to incorporate its Gemini AI technologies, Apple’s offering will likely require deeper integration with its “Apple Intelligence” suite of services.
It is anticipated that Apple will shed more light on its advancements in artificial intelligence at the upcoming WWDC 2025, potentially revealing how its AI capabilities will extend across a range of devices to enable more intuitive, intelligent user experiences.
In addition to the 2026 smart glasses launch, the report indicates that Apple has abandoned plans for a camera-equipped Apple Watch. However, the company is still exploring AirPods equipped with camera functionalities, possibly leveraging computer vision to help users perceive and respond to changes in their surroundings.
