In tandem with the release of iPadOS 26, Apple has revealed forthcoming enhancements for the AirPods 4, its noise-cancelling variant, and the second-generation AirPods Pro. Among the most notable additions is the ability to use these earbuds as remote camera shutters for iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, as well as support for studio-grade audio recording capabilities.
These updates primarily target models equipped with the H2 chip or later, transforming the AirPods 4 series and AirPods Pro 2 into professional-grade recording tools. This advancement caters to a variety of use cases, including interviews, live streaming, vocal performances, and podcast creation. Leveraging the processing power of the H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and advanced algorithms, the system effectively suppresses background noise, delivering recordings with pristine, high-fidelity sound quality.
Additionally, the update enhances voice call clarity, particularly when using FaceTime or third-party applications that support the CallKit API.
Furthermore, users will soon be able to employ their AirPods as remote controls for capturing photos or videos on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Apple also confirmed that this functionality will extend to third-party applications, though the list of supported apps has yet to be disclosed.
