WhatsApp has introduced a new setting that further elevates the platform’s commitment to private communication. Meta has announced the launch of a feature titled Advanced Chat Privacy, which empowers chat participants to enhance the confidentiality of their conversations through additional restrictions.
The key innovation lies in the ability to prohibit message exports and the automatic downloading of media files from chats onto devices. This functionality is particularly relevant in group conversations where users exchange personal details or discuss sensitive matters—such as health issues or volunteer initiatives. Furthermore, the feature disables the invocation and integration of Meta AI within chats, thereby excluding artificial intelligence from private exchanges.
While users can still take screenshots of conversations, WhatsApp representatives have not ruled out the possibility of future updates that may curtail even such actions. The company emphasizes that the ultimate goal of this feature is to foster a secure environment for communication—even among individuals who may not know each other well.
The mode can be enabled manually: simply open the chat’s information panel and select the “Advanced Chat Privacy” option. The feature applies to both group and individual conversations, though its rollout will be gradual and is expected to span several months.
This additional setting complements an already robust suite of privacy tools—including disappearing messages, password protection, and end-to-end encryption. Collectively, they solidify WhatsApp’s position as one of the most privacy-focused communication platforms available today.
