Windows 11 Update Breaks Ubisoft Games: Emergency Block Issued
Recently, users of Windows 11 version 24H2 encountered a significant issue: several popular Ubisoft games became unresponsive either upon launch or during gameplay. In some instances, the screen goes black, while in others, titles from the studio crash entirely. Among the affected games are Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Ubisoft has released a temporary fix for Star Wars Outlaws to mitigate crashes, but a complete resolution remains elusive, with players continuing to report performance degradation.
In response, Microsoft has implemented a restriction on updates for devices with these games installed. Users with affected titles will not receive the update to Windows 11 version 24H2 through the standard Windows Update channel. IT administrators are advised to use safeguard identifiers 54437462 and 54580160 to monitor these issues.
Users are strongly urged not to attempt manual updates via the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or Media Creation Tool until the problem is resolved. Should a game become unresponsive, Microsoft recommends ending the process via Task Manager. To do this, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, locate the game in the processes list, select it, and click End Task.
Ubisoft and Microsoft are actively working to address the issue and promise to provide further updates in the near future.
