Silicon Motion SM2322: Unleashing Portable SSD Speeds for AI and Gaming
Silicon Motion has announced the release of the industry’s fastest single-chip, high-performance, low-power, and cost-effective portable solid-state drive (PSSD) solution. The SM2322 controller chip is designed to efficiently manage the vast content of AI smartphones, high-performance multimedia devices, gaming consoles, and PCs.
Silicon Motion states that the single-chip solution eliminates the need for the USB bridge chip traditionally required in such designs, thereby reducing the bill of materials (BOM) cost and power consumption. As more devices support artificial intelligence, high-capacity and high-performance storage solutions are becoming increasingly crucial for consumers. The newly launched SM2322 single-chip controller offers a low-cost, high-capacity, and high-performance solution.
The SM2322 supports USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interfaces with data transfer rates of up to 20Gbps, offering fully integrated hardware and software solutions. The peak sequential read and write speeds are 2,100MB/s and 2,000MB/s, respectively, with support for up to 8TB of storage capacity. It employs Silicon Motion’s proprietary NANDXtend 4KB LDPC error correction technology, enhancing the endurance and data retention capabilities of 3D TLC/QLC NAND flash. Comprehensive data integrity is ensured through SRAM ECC and end-to-end data path protection. Additionally, the SM2322 provides AES 256-bit encryption, fingerprint security, and full compliance with the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) Opal standard to meet the highest security requirements, offering the utmost data security.
The SM2322 supports ProRes format and MFi specifications for iPhone users and is compatible with Windows, Android OS, and macOS operating systems. This makes it an ideal high-capacity, high-performance portable storage solution for AI smartphones, high-definition content creators, and gaming enthusiasts. It is reported that brands such as ADATA, Crucial, HP, Kingston, Lexar, Transcend, Xiaomi, and Seagate plan to adopt the SM2322 controller to produce ultra-compact and lightweight portable storage products.
