Nintendo Embraces AI Cautiously, Prioritizes Unique Gaming Experiences
Previously, we reported that EA (Electronic Arts) CEO Andrew Wilson expressed the company’s keen interest in leveraging generative AI to address a myriad of challenges, as it can assist game developers in creating better and more innovative games at an accelerated pace. As AI technology matures, an increasing number of developers have indicated their intention to incorporate such technology into game development. However, the gaming giant Nintendo holds a divergent view on AI technology.
According to a report by tech4gamers, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, in response to investor inquiries, acknowledged that AI technology is indeed impressive but not all-encompassing. He further elaborated that Nintendo remains committed to delivering unique and enjoyable gaming experiences. While maintaining an open attitude towards AI technology, Nintendo will also exercise caution to avoid intellectual property-related issues. Therefore, Nintendo will adopt a flexible approach to technological advancements, rather than relying solely on AI for game creation.
Additionally, during the meeting, Furukawa Shuntarou stated that they would ensure sufficient stock of the successor to the Switch to prevent price inflation due to reselling upon its release. When asked about Nintendo’s relationship with NVIDIA, then Chairman and Senior Executive Director Shioada Koshi remarked, that Nintendo and NVIDIA collaborated on the development of the Switch’s SoC and essential system software. Currently, as the Switch business continues, the partnership remains strong.
In May this year, Furukawa Shuntarou confirmed that the successor to the Switch would be unveiled within this fiscal year. Reports suggest that this new device will feature NVIDIA’s custom T239 core, equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5 memory.
