LG Revolutionizes Laptop Displays with Tandem OLED
LG has announced the commencement of mass production of the industry’s first tandem OLED panels for laptops, heralding enhanced performance and reduced power consumption. The superiority of these panels is achieved through the integration of dual-layer red, green, and blue organic light-emitting layers, offering improved durability and performance compared to single-layer OLED panels. This includes an extended lifespan and increased brightness.
LG notes that tandem OLED panels were initially employed in high-quality automotive displays due to their ability to operate more reliably over extended periods. Theoretically, they are the optimal choice for IT products requiring prolonged screen time, such as laptops, monitors, and tablets. This marks the first application of tandem OLED technology in laptops, with a custom-designed 13-inch panel by LG. This panel boasts twice the lifespan and triple the brightness of traditional single-layer OLED panels, alongside a 40% reduction in power consumption.
By redesigning components and enhancing the structure of the tandem OLED panels, LG has managed to make them 40% thinner and 28% lighter than existing OLED screens. This advancement allows for sleeker product designs and enhances portability. The new panels feature a high resolution of WQXGA+ (2880×1800) and precise color expression, achieving 100% DCI-P3, which enables high-definition content to be displayed with greater clarity. Leveraging the self-emissive properties of OLED and infinite contrast, LG’s new tandem OLED panels have also received VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, indicative of their ability to display bright and dark images excellently, enhance 3D effects, and deliver a display quality as close as possible to what the human eye naturally perceives.
Additionally, LG has embedded a touch sensor within the panel, enhancing touch performance and achieving a highly sensitive, full-touch solution.
