Lego Website Briefly Hijacked in Crypto Scam
On the evening of October 4, visitors to the Lego website may have noticed an unusual banner featuring images of gold coins and the company’s logo, announcing that the Lego coin was now officially for sale. The banner’s text promised “secret rewards” to those who purchased the token.
The banner’s button directed users to a third-party cryptocurrency website, offering LEGO Tokens in exchange for Ethereum. It is believed that cybercriminals compromised the Lego website, placing the banner to deceive visitors. Notably, the company had no plans to launch an official cryptocurrency.
Users on Reddit observed that the incident occurred during the night in Denmark, when the company’s headquarters had already closed for the day. Lego responded swiftly to the breach, promptly removing the banner.
In a conversation with Engadget, Lego emphasized that user accounts had not been compromised. The company also stated that it had identified the cause of the issue and was already taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. However, Lego did not disclose the specific details of what caused the breach or the exact measures being implemented to enhance security.
