AMD Zen 5 Pricing Leak: Budget-Friendly Flagship Ryzen CPUs on the Horizon?

Ryzen 7 9700X

At the “AMD Tech Day 2024” event held in Los Angeles, AMD confirmed the launch date for the Ryzen 9000 series processors, codenamed “Granite Ridge,” as July 31, 2024. However, the specific pricing for each processor was not disclosed. The initial lineup includes four models: the Ryzen 9 9950X (16 cores, 32 threads), the Ryzen 9 9900X (12 cores, 24 threads), the Ryzen 7 9700X (8 cores, 16 threads), and the Ryzen 5 9600X (6 cores, 12 threads).

According to a report by Wccftech, an individual on Best Buy’s internal team revealed that the Ryzen 9000 series processors have already arrived and are prepared for sale on July 31. The pricing details for these four processors are as follows:

– Ryzen 9 9950X – $499, compared to the 7950X at $699
– Ryzen 9 9900X – $399, compared to the 7900X at $549
– Ryzen 7 9700X – $299, compared to the 7700X at $399
– Ryzen 5 9600X – $229, compared to the 7600X at $299

Nevertheless, these prices might change before the official release. Historically, last-minute adjustments to the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) are not unprecedented, especially as these prices have not yet been confirmed by AMD. Presently, these figures are notably lower than the previously leaked European retailer pre-order prices and even lower than anticipated, suggesting a competitive edge.

Additionally, the employee noted that the most stocked models are the Ryzen 9 9900X and the Ryzen 7 9700X, while the Ryzen 9 9950X and the Ryzen 5 9600X are in much shorter supply, with fewer than 100 units available for the Ryzen 5 9600X. Considering Intel has been grappling with stability issues in its 13th and 14th generation Core K/KF/KS processors, AMD could potentially leverage this opportunity to capture a significant portion of the desktop platform market share.
