AMD Acquires Silo AI, Accelerating End-to-End AI Solutions
AMD has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Silo AI, the largest private artificial intelligence lab in Europe, for $665 million in cash. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2024. This move represents another significant step in AMD’s strategy to provide end-to-end AI solutions based on open standards and close collaboration with the global AI ecosystem.
The Silo AI team comprises world-class AI scientists and engineers with extensive experience in developing bespoke AI models, platforms, and solutions for leading companies in the cloud, embedded, and endpoint computing markets. Following the completion of the transaction, Silo AI’s CEO and co-founder, Peter Sarlin, will continue to lead the team as part of AMD’s AI Group, reporting to AMD Senior Vice President Vamsi Boppana.
Headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Silo AI operates across Europe and North America, focusing on end-to-end AI-driven solutions that help clients seamlessly integrate AI into their products, services, and operations. Silo AI’s clientele spans multiple markets, including Allianz, Philips, Rolls-Royce, and Unilever. In addition to the SiloGen model platform, Silo AI has developed state-of-the-art open-source multilingual large language models, such as Poro and Viking, on AMD platforms.
The acquisition of Silo AI marks the latest development in AMD’s series of acquisitions and corporate investments to bolster its AI strategy. Over the past 12 months, AMD has invested more than $125 million in 12 AI companies and has acquired Mipsology and Nod.ai to expand its AI ecosystem, support partners, and advance AMD’s computing platforms.
