Windows 11 Update Injects More Ads, Users Frustrated
In Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2, following the installation of the latest July updates, there has been an increase in the display of advertisements and recommendations for the use of additional Microsoft services.
According to the developers, users will now see advertisements in the Start menu and the Settings section. Most of these ads are presented as promotions for various applications and are labeled as “recommendations.”
The decision to incorporate advertisements into the operating system is part of Microsoft’s strategy to increase revenue from Windows. Despite the operating system already being used on billions of devices and generating substantial profit for the company, Microsoft continues to explore new avenues for monetizing its product.
It is important to note that the developers have provided an option to disable these new advertising elements. Users need to follow these steps:
- Open Settings: Press the Windows key and select Settings.
- Personalization: Go to Personalization.
- Start: Click on Start.
- Toggle Off: Turn off “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more.”
To ensure these settings work correctly, it is recommended to use the latest version of the operating system.
