Apple Taps LG as Backup for iPhone SE 4 OLED Displays
The third-generation iPhone SE was launched on March 9, 2022, and it has now been over two years since its release. Early reports indicated that Apple had advanced the development of the fourth-generation iPhone SE, poised to be their new cost-effective flagship smartphone. Rumors suggest it might enter mass production in October this year, with an expected release between January and March 2025.
According to The Elec, Apple may select LG as the secondary supplier for OLED panels for the fourth-generation iPhone SE. Earlier news indicated that BOE, due to its price advantage, won the competition against Samsung and became the primary supplier of OLED panels for this new model.
The iPhone SE series traditionally incorporates many components from other standard iPhone models to reduce manufacturing costs. However, Apple equips it with newer SoCs, ensuring performance superior to other competing models in the same price range, thereby enhancing Apple’s competitiveness in emerging markets.
Reportedly, the fourth-generation iPhone SE will borrow design elements from the iPhone 16, featuring an aluminum alloy frame and the A18 chip. It will sport a 6.06-inch LTPS OLED screen with a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz, paired with 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR5 memory, and up to 512GB of storage. Additionally, it will support Face ID, and the rear will feature a single 48-megapixel camera. Other features include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, a USB-C interface, and a customizable button akin to the iPhone 15 Pro.
Furthermore, the fourth-generation iPhone SE will utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X70 modem, although an Apple-developed baseband is also possible, and it will include the U1 UWB chip. The built-in battery capacity will be 3000mAh, supporting 20W wired charging and 12W wireless charging.
